Old Ox Brewery in Ashburn, VA is looking for an experienced brewer to join our team as we expand into a second location. Depending on qualifications, this could be a “Lead Brewer” role with extensive leadership opportunities for the right candidate.
Old Ox Brewery is currently a thriving production brewery with a 30BBL system and a cellaring capacity of 6,000BBLs/yr. We are beginning construction on a new taproom and 5BBL innovation brewery in Middleburg, VA slated to open Spring/Summer 2019.
This is a great opportunity to combine the satisfaction of dialing beers in on the big system with the ability to pursue small, creative, one-off projects on the small system. All of our brewers do all of the jobs, so everyone is involved in brewing, cellaring, packaging, barrels, recipe development, cleaning, etc. We believe this aids in cooperation to keep the brewery running efficiently and helps keep things interesting for you. Our plan is that all of our brewers will eventually spend time at both our production and our innovation breweries.
We are hiring a few new brewers and our goal is to put together a fun, well-rounded team, so there could be a fit for brewers with many different backgrounds. Our goal is for everyone to carve out a niche for themselves where they can exercise some responsibility and creative freedom. These projects could include anything from quality analysis to facility maintenance to barrel program management.
-3+ years of experience working as a commercial brewer
-Degree from an intensive brewer training program or in a related field such as microbiology, mechanical engineering, etc.
-Experience running a Wild Goose Canning Line
-Experience with barrel-aged, sour/funky, or other experimental beers
-Experience managing production staff, schedule, etc.
-Familiarity with mechanical systems and facilities maintenance
-Exceptional organizational skills and a desire to optimize
-Efficient time management, strong work ethic, and empathy
-Experience with brewery buildout
-Ability to meet the physical demands of brewery life (standing for long periods, working in hot/cold/wet environments, working with chemicals and machinery, lifting up to 60lb, manipulating up to 175lb, etc.)
-Love of beer!
The brewer will report directly to our Head Brewer and will be actively involved in all facets of day-to-day operation.
