Old Ox Brewery, a startup packaging brewery in Ashburn, Virginia, is seeking an experienced brewer to manage all aspects of our production operations. We are in possession of a 30 BBL system with initial cellaring capacity of 4,000 bbls. We are fully funded, closing on our real estate this month, and targeting a winter 2014 launch. We are looking to fill the head brewer position immediately so that the chosen candidate can actively participate in recipe development, final brewery design, and startup activities.

The right candidate will possess the following:

  • Practical experience documenting and applying industry best practices in the areas of:
    • Safety processes and procedures
    • Quality control and quality assurance
    • Cleaning and sanitation
  • Experience developing high quality recipes and scaling them from pilot batches to production batches
  • Hands-on experience operating all aspects of brewing and packaging operations to include:
    • Cleaning and sanitation
    • Grain handling
    • Wort production
    • Yeast Management
    • Cellaring
    • Packaging (kegging and bottling)
    • Lab and sensory analysis
