Last Call: Saying Farewell and Thank You

To the Customers and Community that we love –

I’m writing to let you know that the time has come to say goodbye to Old Ox Brewery. It has been an incredible journey these past 11 years. We’ve treasured every moment. Well, with a few rare exceptions. 🙂 Together, we’ve made wonderful friendships, supported our community, created some pretty darned cool experiences, and consumed an impressive quantity of delicious beer. Everything must end, though and this is our time. Our last day of operation will be Saturday, April 5th. We expect you to be there to help us celebrate.

Some of you may be wondering how and why this is happening. Well, it’s a semi-long story but here are the CliffsNotes. Our lease is up at the end of April. At the same time, Graham and Mary Ann are ready for their next adventure, retirement. Additionally, Chris and Kristin have some exciting opportunities outside the brewing world. Because of this, we felt the best way to secure Old Ox’s spot in the community was to work towards finding new ownership that could take our little brewery to the next level. So we began the search.

Fast forward to a month ago. We identified a great buyer for Old Ox. Yay! We informed the landlord. Wouldn’t you know it, the landlord had identified a potential new tenant for the space a few days earlier. Ugh. Over the last few weeks we’ve been working, negotiating and wheeling and dealing, trying to see if there was a way for Old Ox to stay in the space. Unfortunately, the new tenant is a public entity and we simply could not compete with them. A deal was finalized between the landlord and the new tenant last Friday. They will take over the Old Ox space once our lease is up at the end of April.

Is there a chance Old Ox will live on outside of the Ashburn space? It’s possible. We’re actively looking at solutions that would enable Old Ox to live on in a new space. But honestly,  it’s too soon to tell. Making this announcement is the first step in figuring out the future. Who knows exactly what happens from here?

Whatever happens, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the 11 years of love we’ve felt from all of you. We’ve had some amazing times and we’ve created memories that we’ll carry with us for the rest of our lives. We appreciate you.

All our love,

Chris, Kristin, Mary Ann, Graham
