Black Ox Wins Gold, Hoppy Place Bronze in VA Craft Brewers Cup!

blackoxhoppyplaceOld Ox Brewery’s Black Ox earned a gold medal and Hoppy Place earned a silver medal in their divisions in the Virginia Craft Brewers Cup competition. The results of the competition were announced on Tuesday, August 16 at an event hosted by the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild in Richmond.

Old Ox brews were among a record 378 craft beers entered in the competition. Black Ox took the gold medal in the American Dark Ale category. Hoppy Place earned the bronze in the American IPA category.

“This event showcases the creativeness and diversity of Virginia’s craft beer community and we are honored to have our beer recognized among such an outstanding field of competitors,” said Chris Burns, president of Old Ox Brewery.

The festival competition is hosted by the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild and coincides with Virginia Craft Beer Month and the Virginia Craft Beer Festival on Saturday, August 20 at Devils Backbone Basecamp. Medals are awarded to the highest ranking beer in each style category. The criteria for judging is based on the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) rulings.

Other Loudoun County Breweries earning medals: Beltway Brewing Company, Corcoran Brewing, Dirt Farm Brewing, Lost Rhino Brewing Company, and Old 690 Brewing Company.

Other Northern Virginia Breweries earning medals: Caboose Brewing Company, Capital City Brewing Company, Fair Winds Brewing Company, Heritage Brewing Company, Lake Anne Brew House, Mad Fox Brewing Company, Old Bust Head Brewing Company, and Port City Brewing Company.
